FUNDAMENTALS OF PAINTING COURSE OUTLINE

First & Second Session:

In the first session we will discuss painting in oils, acrylics, watercolors, egg tempera, and review the pros and cons of each medium. We will discuss different artistic principles: what to paint, the reasons behind a painting, what you wish to convey, etc. We will learn about the different painting supports, brushes, workspace, and preparation of a painting. We will discuss the use of photography as reference material and the importance of sketching and preliminary work. Participants will be given material lists for each medium, catalogs, and other literature.

Third through Fifth Session:

Participants will be required to have their materials by this session. We will begin working on our projects. I will discuss color and technique more thoroughly and will be available to each participant with help and suggestions. While not necessary, participants are encouraged to paint between sessions, after which we can discuss the work.

After the conclusion of the class I will be available indefinitely to anyone who needs help or has questions. If you wish to learn, I will do anything I can to help you.
